Grosman Announces Solar System Plan

Grosman revealed a plan to install 1,383 photovoltaic solar panels on the Sports and Convocation Center as physical evidence of the school's commitment to go green. The system will stop 122 tons of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere every year.

The plans were annunced the same day that Brandeis carbon reduction plan was released. The goal of the plan: get rid of all greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. One of the main components of the text is through promoting energy efficiency.

The 277 kW photovoltaic solar system will help push the school to become energy efficient. The solar system is not owned by the school. Instead, EOS Ventures agreed to fund the system and the school agrees to purchase electricity generated by the solar system.

The system also offers education value. Student at the university can recognize the importance of saving energy and the value in becoming energy efficient thanks to the schools example. With society's current desire to become energy independent, educating the youth about different economical ways of promoting renewable energy is one extremely effective way to get the ball rolling.
